PATIENTS ATTENDING MEDICO LEGAL EXAMINATIONS

A medico legal examination is an examination conducted by an independent practitioner to assess, and evaluate your injury/condition, in some cases to determine permanent impairment.

WHAT IS A MEDICO LEGAL EXAMINATION?

A medico legal examination is an examination conducted by an independent practitioner to assess, and evaluate your injury/ condition, in some cases to determine permanent impairment.

An IME (independent medical examiner) is not your treating practitioner, and as such cannot make recommendations or provide advice as a treating practitioner typically would.

After your examination, the practitioner will write a detailed report and send this to the party who requested the report. Medicolegal Express is not able to provide the report directly to you.

How to prepare for your medico legal examination?

The party who arranged the booking on your behalf will send the relevant documentation to the specialist prior to your appointment.

Depending on the injury type being assessed, a physical examination will be likely. Please wear loose fitting clothing that doesn’t inhibit movement and can be easily removed if required.

Please bring valid photographic identification and arrive to your appointment 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.

Telehealth examinations

If your examination is being conducted via telehealth, it is essential that the device you are using has sufficient battery, and in good working order (both audio & visual). Due to confidentiality requirements, it is essential that you are in a private location and you won’t be disturbed for the duration of the assessment.

Medicolegal Express’ friendly team are more than happy to facilitate practice telehealth sessions with you prior to your examination with the specialist – to arrange please contact us on 1300 299 899.

How do I reschedule my appointment?

Please contact the law firm/institution who arranged your booking with Medicolegal Express. Medicolegal Express requires as much notice as possible to change or cancel examinations. Cancelation fees will apply within 48 hours of scheduled start time.
